Excursion Theme: Late Quaternary sea level change history of the north-eastern Adriatic Sea.
Excursion Organisers: Stefano Furlani, Department of Mathematics and Geosciences, University of Trieste, Devoto S.

The northeastern sector of the Adriatic Sea is made of Mesozoic limestones and Flysch cliffs with some small bays between headlands. Several archaeological, geomorphological and sedimentological indicators allowed to reconstruct local relative sea level changes from Late Pleistocene to nowadays. The fieldtrip will focus both on continental and marine deposits and archaeological sequences that were used to reconstruct the sea level change history in the area, from the northern sector of the Gulf of Trieste to the Istrian peninsula.
To discuss the proposed themes, we will visit, in particular, the northern sector of the Gulf of Trieste, the Miramare submerged tidal notches, the archaeological remains below the city of Trieste and San Bartolomeo Bay, the archeological site of Savudrija (HR), the floodplain of the Mirna River and the tidal notches at Limski Kanal. The second day is dedicated to the Brijuni archaeological submerged remains and the Park of Premantura
